Reflections At Sunset
by Juliette Lively Dickey
I wrote 'Fifty Years' after a friend asked me to write a poem for her parents fiftieth anniversary. As my own marriage has lasted more than fifty years I could visualize the trials and the joys that had gone into fifty years of working together to raise a family, the happy as well as some sad times.
FIFTY YEARS
Fifty golden years we have shared
Letting the world know that we cared,
About each other and the commitment we made,
To always keep the promises that we gave.
Through the years there has been gladness,
Intermingled with some sorrows and sadness.
We are thankful for our Faith in God Above,
Who kept us together with His Love.
God gave us children for a little while,
And in our joy of them we smile.
He gave us the strength to keep them fed,
We thank the Lord for our daily bread.
The children are now grown and have left home,
With families and children of their own.
We by example have shown them truth and love,
Taught them to have Faith in God Above.
Our years together have been a blessing,
And as our days on earth are lessening,
We look forward to being Above the Bright Blue,
And spending Eternity with God and you.
